Gaga was introduced to performer Lady Starlight during this time in 2007; following her performance at the Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records which is an imprint owned by Interscope Records. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during an apprenticeship with Famous Music Publishing. This business was later purchased and rebranded Sony/ATV Music Publishing. As a result, she was commissioned to write songs for Britney Spears and labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's first album, "The Fame", was released in 2008, with very little interest from the radio. Gaga went on tour in Europe as well as the US to promote her album. But it was not until Gaga got her first big hit, "Just Dance", that attention from the public began to come to the music industry. Gaga was suffering from a labral injury to her right hip. She had been taking care of it in secret for several months in hopes of being capable of continuing her tour. Following her show in Toronto Gaga became unable to walk and was suffering from severe pain. She was taken to the hospital and the tour was canceled.
